This was one of my first projects whilst studying at university… I was drawn to how everyone has become ‘Addicted’ to technology, consumed by their phones – so much so that they become a barrier between oneself and reality. Almost like living behind a screen. Instead of viewing a scene with our eyes, we stick a screen between ourselves and the subject and take a photograph for social media… Instead of writing a letter we send a text or email…

This series was captured during a week in New York, a city that is constantly moving and connected… The images are digital manipulations using multiple shots of a scene, layered, to emulate a kaleidoscopic illusion. In some cases I used a multi-faceted crystal to create a similar composition. These disjointed scenes portray how modern life is now fractured and suggest the obsession we have with our devices.
